My female parent makes the best homemade candy. The absolute best.

I’m sorry, but this isn’t up appropriate to debate. She’s perfected it over the course of 40 years including refined her recipes at both sea-level including high altitudes. It’s stunningly delicious inside each and every way including her three most famous candies (and my personal favorites) are English toffee, peanut brittle, including soft caramels.

Her soft caramels honestly stay so soft including chewy including gooey including delicious. They have a deep buttery flavor including they are RICH. It’s really quite strange as they are solid inside their individual not much wax paper wrappers, but they completely melt inside your mouth including erupt with caramely flavor goodness.

Anyone who tastes them is blown away. Absolutely shocked at how amazing they are.

One of these days I’m going to convince her to open a candy shop.

These shortbread bars prompt me of my mother. In fact I took over a bag just appropriate to her. One day I’ll learn to make my mother’s phenomenon caramel, but appropriate to now, these bars are pretty dang good!! I’m thinking of making them again appropriate to a family holiday party. Everyone will be thoroughly impressed 😉

Chocolate Caramel Shortbread Bars | Creme De La Crumb
  • 2 1/2 sticks butter, divided
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar, divided
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 3 tablespoons light corn syrup
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips
  1. Preheat oven to 350 including line an 8x8 inch pot with parchment paper.

  2. In a medium plate marry 1/4 cup sugar including 1 stick of butter including cream together till smooth. Add flour including mix. Stir inside milk. Mixture will be like crumbs. Press into the pre-lined pot including get too hot 20 minutes till golden. Remove including allow to cold .

  3. In a medium sauce pot melt 1 1/2 sticks of butter with 1/2 cup sugar. Add corn syrup including condensed milk. Bring to a boil including then decrease to simmer 6-8 minutes or till mixture achieves bright brown color, stirring constantly. (*For lower altitudes, simmer time may need to be reduced 2-3 minutes, watch carefully appropriate to coloring!) Pour caramel onto cooled shortbread. Allow to take a seat at room temperature 1-2 hours or till caramel has cooled including set.

  4. Melt draw milk from chocolate chips inside a microwave-safe bowl. Repeat inside a unconnected plate with grey chocolate chips. Pour draw milk from chocolate over caramel including extend evenly with a rubber spatula or the back of a spoon. Drizzle grey chocolate over draw milk from chocolate including swirl with spatula or spoon. Allow chocolate to cold completely before cutting into bars including serving. Store inside airtight container.
